Overlooking History Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Yoknapatawpha: Greetings from Geocaching.com,

It has come to my attention that this cache was placed in an area that is owned by the Department of Energy and is not a public access area. This means that the cache must be archived. In these cases, we must respect the wishes of property owners and managers. I am therefore, archiving this listing, please pick up this cache or any remaining bits as soon as possible. If there are extenuating circumstance or if there is more information that I should be aware of, I encourage you to contact me directly as archivals can easily be reversed if there is cause.

In my contact with the security manager, I was informed that Perimeter Road is open to the public as far as driving through the area, but both sides of the roadway belong to the US Dept. of Energy (DOE) and are not public areas. The Pro Force manager said that geocaches on the DOE reservation would not be welcome and anyone out looking for a geocache in those areas would be subject to being stopped and interrogated by the Security Police Officers that routinely patrol those areas.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute in the past and I am looking forward to your continued contributions to the sport of Geocaching.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located at the upper overlook of an important site in United States history and an integral part of the Manhattan project, K-25.

K-25 is a former uranium enrichment facility of the Manhattan Project which used the gaseous diffusion method. The plant was located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, on the southwestern end of the Oak Ridge Reservation. "K-25" was the name of the first and largest building and also the name of the larger complex, after other "K-" buildings were added. The code name "K-25" was a combination of the "K" from the Kellex Corporation, the initial contractors of the plant, and "25," a World War II-era code designation for uranium-235.
