Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches at or nearby sites that my geodog, Redtail, visited as a certified therapy dog.  Redtail is my golden retriever who loves to geocache with me.  He’s got a nose for a cache and knows when to sit and stay while I sign the log.  He is exceptionally sweet and kind.  When he was a puppy Mr. Redtail2000 and I promised that we would get him certified as a therapy dog.  Admittedly, he had to take Canine Good Citizenship twice because during the final exam he jumped on the instructor… but only because he loved her so much.  Those goldens sure do love to be a puppy!  Finally at the mature age of eight, he’s made the ranks as a therapy dog certified by the Southwest Canine Corps of Volunteers.  Now I get to share with you some of the more poignant events that occurred during our visits.  Please always be mindful and respectful of your surroundings when caching at these sites.

This visit was a real hoot because as we entered one of the units at the Woodmark facility there was a circle of about 40 residents in wheelchairs along with some chairs and in the middle was the instructor in a wheelchair leading an exercise class with music.  Residents were exercising by moving their ankles and shins as well as their arms and hands.  Redtail was making his way around the circle and had stopped for a visit with a woman who was stroking his back in time to the music.  Seated to her right was a gentleman who then delicately put his hand on Redtail’s head and proceeded to pat him on his head in time to the music.  Seated to her left was another woman who was resting with her eyes closed but Redtail’s tail was wagging in her lap.  His tail stirred her enough to wake up, see Redtail, smile and then go back to resting.  These are some of the moments that make it all worthwhile.

Cache on…

Congrats to Duck-Boy and fgfsumh on their FTFs. We love a show of good sportsmanship:) Y'all are rockin' the FTFs on this series! Rock on :)
