Geocache Description:

A nano at the head of a mile long road.

I love this road. It is almost exactly a mile long, any measurement out is negligable (I have measured it). What fascinates me about it is how many different styles and ages of house line this road. I am no architect so I can't tell you exactly what year each house is from, but there are Victorian properties, houses from the 30s to the 80s, but with very few if any in some cases, of each style. Magnificant trees line the road all the way down to St Mary's lodge (look out for the Sine Macular cache here). They are regularly pollarded and more than once there have been complaints that the arborists have killed them off, yet they always sprout new growth each year.

Battenhall lies off London Road and was first recorded in Norman times, when the Poer family held the manor for the annual rent of one lamprey. It later belonged to the priors of Worcester, who made a deer park and built a palace. After the Dissolution, part of the estate went to Worcester Cathedral and the rest fell into the hands of a succession of different families. The modern suburb originated with a Royal Agricultural Society show held at Battenhall in 1863. To create suitable access to the show, Battenhall Road was made and a residential suburb inevitably followed.

I would recommend a walk down this road. There are a few caches along the road including beyond St Mary's, and considering how close it is to the city, it is a peaceful, pretty walk (unless you try it at the beginning or end of the school day!). If you do want to cache and dash, this is also possible as there is ample parking along the road. The cache itself is a nano, well hidden black on black...You may need a degree of stealth as it is near a junction and a busy road.

Well done to Thejenks7 for being FTF
