Geocache Description:

The California Trail was the greatest peaceful migration of people. Americans traveling west on the overland trail redefined and shaped the United States into what it is today, and ultimately changed the lives of people forever. “Seeing the elephant,” a phrase found in numerous journal entries of overland emigrants, meant the West was something that people had to see to believe. The phrase is so commonly found, that has become a symbol of the overland journey itself.
