Geocache Description:

The cache is located about 2.5 km south of Cape Solander point. It's a black painted rain pipe hidden near the lighthouse.

Cape Baily Light is an active lighthouse located at Cape Baily, a headland at the south side of the entrance to Botany Bay, New South Wales, Australia. The light serves in help north-bound shipping stay close to the coast to avoid the strong southerly currents found further out to sea. The lighthouse was first suggested in 1931, but was eventually established in 1950. The light house is surrounded by significant Aboriginal sites, sandstone cliffs and several important wetlands. Height: 9.1 meters. Range: 18.5 kilometers.

The cache can be found after a moderate walk along the Cape Baily Track accessed either from the end of Cape Solander Drive, or the car park at Potter Point (follow Sir Joseph Banks Drive to end), which will be half an hour walk.

You can also walk from the Kamay Botany Bay Visitor Centre car park. When you are going to do this walk, keep in mind that it will take about two hours to get to the lighthouse.

See the following website for more information about the park, please check it out before you go to make sure the park isn't temporary closed: http://www.nationalparks.nsw.gov.au/things-to-do/Lookouts/Cape-Solander

Heads up!
  • Make sure you have enough water with you, specially outside the winter season.
  • Always check the weather forest and the BOM rain radar, as there is no place to shelter.
  • The track is mostly over established sand-tracks, but make sure you wear closed shoes and long pants as you will brush with vegetation.
  • Mobile phone reception can be patchy depending on your carrier.
  • The park has a "no smoking" policy.
