The ADVer's are particularly fond of finding caches placed at old school sites, whether it be just a sign marking the spot, just a remaining memorial gate, or on the odd occassion some remaining buildings. The younger ones of course are quick to compare with their own school, and as we all attended, or are attending, big city schools ourselves we like to take some time and imagine the time and the place, and what it would be like attending the particular old rural school we are visiting. We were quite thrilled to come across a number of old schools that remain completely intact so hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did....
You will find the cache at the Rewa Old School Reserve, site of the old Rewa school. Although not signposted as such, it is administered as a reserve by the Manawatu District Council. The school building itself is used by the local community for various activities. The buildings and grounds are generally maintained by the local community with the council contributing to the chlorine and pump for the swimming pool and painting the buildings. The War Memorial is a feature of the reserve. Facilities include toilets, swimming pool and tennis courts.
