Geocache Description:

A tree climb cache at St. Ann's Hill.

This is a multi-cache that involves two tree climbs, each of which requires climbing equipment.

You should carry out your own risk assesment before attempting the cache, and continue only if you have the appropriate safety equipment and the competence to use it correctly, or if you are being supervised by someone who has.

The location was dictated partly by the proximity of other caches, and partly because other parts of St. Ann's Hill are much busier. It has the disadvantage of being close to the M3/M25 junction, so traffic noise is ever present, and it is furthest from the car park, but the infrequency of visitors does, I think, outweigh the other considerations.

The cache is a simple multi, with straightforward climbs and no tricks or field puzzles - the first stage simply holds the co-ordinates of the final.

The tree is beside a small pool, and the first stage is on the far side of the pool (i.e. the same side as the trunk of the tree). You are looking for a green Bison capsule at approximately 25 feet altitude, suspended on a length of knicker elastic beneath a horizontal branch just over 20cm diameter. There is a smaller branch of approx 10 cm diameter directly below the capsule that obscures it from directly below, but you have to move only a metre to one side for it to be visible.

The co-ordinates are written on a small wooden dowel inside the Bison capsule - don't drop it when you open the container .

It is to be hoped that this cache will shortly be joined by a much more difficult climbing cache nearer to the entrance, but this one has been kept very simple as a possible introduction to rope climbing for those who have never done it before but wish to try.

There is an unactivated TB tag in the cache for the FTF.
