Geocache Description:

GENERAL INFO
This GeoArt is made out of 66 Geocaches spread out to form the outline of Norway.  My intention is to bring Geocachers from around the world to this beautiful, tranquil place, and to bring some knowledge about Norway to fellow Geocachers.  CO is, as you probably understand, from Norway.
Each cachedescription will contain some information about Norway. It can be food, cities, traditions, people or just typical stuff from Norway. I have mainly used Wikipedia as source for all text, and further information on each subject can be found there.
Total length of the tour, if you do it by the numbers, is around 19 km.  The size and form of the containers varies.  Most of them are just bottles hanging in trees, but you will also find other types and sizes. Some of them are large enough for trading-items or Travelbugs, and some will be micro/nano-sized.

The terrain can at some places be very steep, and when wet, very slippery as well, so be careful.  There are also a lot of blackberry bushes in the area, and crossing these should be done with caution due to the thornes. Some of the trees in this area have also thornes along the stem and branches.
Between some of the caches it could be better to find a way around, rather than go straight on. It might be longer, but will spare you from a lot of frustration (that we experienced while placing the caches)

If you need accomodation while you are there to take the tour, pls contact me and I can recommend a nice place that are nearby.

I have friends from Norway who lives in Settime, where I also have a cache.  They are the ones that will do most of the maintenance on the caches on my behalf.

This info will just be published on this first cache, and a link to this will follow on the rest of the caches.

#01 Fredrikstad

Fredrikstad  is a city and municipality in Østfold county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the city of Fredrikstad.
The city straddles the river Glomma where it meets the Skagerrak. Along with neighboring Sarpsborg, Fredrikstad forms one of the ten largest city in Norway: Fredrikstad/Sarpsborg. As of 1 January 2013, according to Statistics Norway, these two municipalities have a total population of 128,916 with 75,583 in Fredrikstad and 53,333 in Sarpsborg.
Fredrikstad was built at the mouth of Glomma as a replacement after Sarpsborg (15 kilometers upstream) was burned down by the Swedes. Almost half the population of Sarpsborg stayed behind, and rebuilt their old town at its original site.
The city centre is on the west bank of the Glomma, while the old town on the east bank is Northern Europe's best preserved fortified town.

Fredrikstad used to have a large sawmill industry and was an important harbor for timber export, then later on shipbuilding, until the main yard was closed in the 1980s. The main industries are currently various chemical plants and other light industry.
