In 1913, Roland Ray Conklin and his wife decided to construct Rosemary Farm in Lloyd Harbor for his wife, Mary MacFadden. She had been an opera singer and at their mansion they could entertain their wealthy friends, who were leading actors, conductors and singers of the day. In 1918 Mr. Conklin built his wife an open-air theatre complete with a main stage is surrounded by a moat accessible by a stone bridge. There were stonework tiers and statues as well as distant views of Long Island Sound. Although the Conklin’s main house burned down in 1991, there are still some interesting remnants left of Rosemary Farm including the ampitheatre. I suggest you check out the stone ruins on foot, but be stealthy!
Directions: Cache is south of West Neck road in Lloyd Harbor (before you reach the straightaway to Lloyd Neck) Note that there is NO parking on the side of ANY road in Lloyd Harbor and the police do enforce that very quickly! There are 2 ways you can get to GZ.
1.You can park in Quentin Sammis West Neck Beach parking lot and walk to GZ.
(Note: You need to be a resident to park at the beach during the day in summertime)
2. Make a left before the beach and park near the pond and walk up the trail.
The cache was originally placed near the outdoor amphitheater but was moved to its present location, across the street. If you want to see the original location from a satellite view, the coordinates of the amphitheater are: N 40° 54.422 W 073° 28.711. There is a moat where they used to have multiple fountain jets shoot up water to make a “liquid curtain” which was turned on between scenes. Above the amphitheater is an all stone reception area or ticket booth? Please note that the hundreds of acres of fields and woods where these ruins are located is now owned by the Rockville Centre Diocese. You can’t miss the huge building on the east side of West Neck road which is called “Seminary of the Immaculate Conception”.
