Geocache Description:


This multi will take you approximately 300m from start to finish along Havelock Street, which is one of Beaufort's heritage streets.

The cache is at:      S37 25.ABC     E143 23.DEF

You are looking for a 50ml cylindrical container with logbook and pencil.

 

The published co-ordinates will bring you to the Masonic Hall (Fiery Creek Lodge).

Originally it was the Brick Store, built by Wotherspoon Bros. The Lodge took over the building in 1905, closing its doors 102 years later in 2007. Now a private residence.

A = number of arched windows x 3

 

Waypoint 1: S37 25.809    E143 22.911   Erskine

Built in 1901, Erskine, for many years, was the Doctor's Residence. Now a private home.

B = house number / 6

 

Waypoint 2: S37 25.820    E143 22.918   Weighbridge House

Built by the Shire of Ripon in 1874, it was originally located where the rotunda is now. It has endured four moves to its current location.

C = the final digit of the year of its final move.

 

Waypoint 3: S37 25.828    E143 22.926   Mechanics Institute

The rear portion was built in 1863, then the front portion was added in 1887 for Queen Victoria’s Jubilee. Now used by the Beaufort Band, and the local Craft and Art Groups.

D = the number of W’s in the signage on the front of the Institute.

 

Waypoint 4: S37 25.853    E143 22.961   The Hospital

Originally St Bernard’s Private Hospital, it became a Bush Nursing Hospital in 1928, then Beaufort Health Service in 1980.

E = the number of letters on the wall minus 26.

 

Waypoint 5: S37 25.868    E143 22.977   Bull & Mouth

In the 1870s, this was the site of the Bull & Mouth Hotel, then later the George Hotel. Now private units.

F = the number of letterboxes.
