Formerly a State Industrial School for Girls, the buildings included administration, hospital, chapel, plant, farm building and cottages to house 160 girls. Inmates ranged in age from 8-16 years and remained at the school until they reached 21 years of age or were discharged. Architect Clarence H. Johnston, Sr. incorporated Colonial and Classic Revival elements into the buildings and is on the National Registry of Historic Districts. Approval by Melony Butler
