May-ling's Air Force One is a converted C-47 for the ex-president, Chiang Kai-shek and his first lady, Soong May-ling. This C-47 was given to the goverment of Republic of China by the US goverment in 1947.
The Douglas C-47 Skytrain or Dakota is a military transport aircraft developed from the civilian Douglas DC-3 airliner. It was used extensively by the Allies during World War II and remained in front line service with various military operators to the present day. Douglas Aircraft built almost 10,655 DC-3s and C47s from 1935 until the end of World War II. There were also roughly 7,500 built in Japan and Russia.
May-ling’s Air Force One had its last flight from Songshan Airport (TSA) to Taoyuan Airport (TPE) in 1981. It has then stood here at the Aviation Museum for display ever since. The Aviation Museum on the way to the airport terminals if you are coming from the highway. The outdoor display are free and open to the public. If you are interested in more aviation technology and history, you can visit the indoor exhibit.
There is a carpark right next to the aviation museum, parking under 1 hour is free. Please be cautious and watch out for muggles, there are a lot of drivers in the cars around here. They are here to wait for the flights to land and phone calls from the passengers, the closest terminal is a bit more than 1km from here. However, they are usually reading papers, taking a nap or concentrating on their phones, so its not that bad.
