Gedung ini adalah sebuah bangunan bersejarah yang ada di pusat kota. Disebut sebagai Gedung Sate karena gedung ini mempunyai ciri khas yang unik, yaitu ornamen 6 tusuk sate yang ada di atas menara sentral. 6 tusuk sate ini melambangkan 6 juta Gulden yang dipakai untuk membangun gedung berwarna putih ini pada masanya.
Gedung yang dibangun pada tahun 1920 ini sampai sekarang masih berdiri kokoh dan berfungsi sebagai pusat pemerintahan kota Bandung.
Gedung Sate is a neo-classical building mixed with native elements. Once the seat of the Dutch East Indies department of Transport, Public Works and Water Management, it now serves as the governor's office of the West Java province. It was built in 1920 after a design by Dutch architect J. Gerber.
Its common name, Gedung sate, is a nickname that translates literally from Indonesian to 'satay building', which is a reference to the shape of the building's central pinnacle - which resemble the shape of one of the Indonesian traditional dish called satay.
Gedung Sate est un mélange d'architecture traditionnelle et néo-classique, construit en 1920 sous la direction de l'architecte hollandais J. Gerber. Le bâtiment porte le nom du satay, un plat indonésien, car son pinacle ressemble à la célèbre brochette. Les six boules représenteraient le prix du bâtiment qui aurait atteint six millions de gulden. Le bâtiment abrite aujourd'hui le centre administratif de la ville de Bandung.
