[ENG] "Capitana" is located in a beautiful bay surrounded by high cliffs stretching out to the sea, which are a shelter for east winds, and a white sand beach with shingle zones which extends for several hundred meters. The water depths are not very high and there are rocky outcrops.
Former military compendium has been subjected to many conversions at different times which led to a frequent overlap of uses: there are thus evidence of the nuragic settlement (with a role of protection and control) and, later, the abandoned production complex, tied to 'fishing for tuna' dates back to the 800 and known as the "Ex Is Mortorius trap".
The battery was installed in 1936 and activated in 1943 as part of a defensive system in front of the sea that is connected to the batteries of Cape Pula, and Cape St. Elia.
The Battery is open and thus it is dirty and full of trash. The cache is located outside, between the rocks.
[ITA] La località di "Capitana" si trova in una splendida insenatura racchiusa tra la scogliera che si allunga sul mare, che costituisce un riparo ai venti di levante, e una spiaggia di sabbia bianchissima con tratti ghiaiosi che si estende per diverse centinaia di metri. I fondali non sono molto alti e sull'acqua affiorano degli scogli.
L’ex compendio militare è stato sottoposto al numerose riconversioni avvenute in diverse epoche che hanno comportato una frequente sovrapposizione di usi: si trovano quindi testimonianze dello stanziamento nuragico (per cui ricopriva un ruolo di protezione e controllo) e, più avanti, del complesso produttivo dismesso, legato all’ attività di pesca del tonno risalente alla fine dell’800 e conosciuto come l’“Ex tonnara di Is Mortorius”.
La batteria è stata installata nel 1936 e attivata nel 1943 come parte di un sistema difensivo fronte a mare che si collegava alle batterie di Capo Pula, e Capo S. Elia.
La Batteria è aperta e quindi sporca e piena di rifiuti. La cache si trova all'esterno, tra le rocce.
