Huddersfield Observatory was built on an World War 2 Observer Corps post at Crosland Moor. The original building was derelict and needed a lot of work before building could commence in the 1970's. The Huddersfield Astronomical Society hold regular meetings for it's members but also between October and April, the Observatory opens to the public during four Open Weeks [Monday to Friday/Saturday from 7.30 p.m. to 9.00 p.m( but only if the skies are clear. These weeks are planned around significant night sky events – for example visibility of the Moon, brighter Planets and meteor showers. Check the Huddersfield Astronomical Society website for more details.
