Legend has it that around the time of the settling of Tallahassee, a crew of pirates, led by Captain One-Eyed Jack, made their way inland, eventually sailing up the Ochlockonee River and making camp on the banks for several nights in this area, located in the Lake Talquin State Forest. Late one night, when the moon was full and the fog was rolling in, the pirates were ambushed by a group of settlers. In a scurry, One-Eyed Jack hid that which was most precious to him. No one really knows what happened to Jack that night, but it is said that the treasure still remains. Is it a chest of gold? Or maybe a map? Or maybe he left his soul out there that night....
