Geocache Description:

This cache is located on the Great Alpine Road.  Heading from Harrietville towards Mount Hotham, Rene's Lookout is located on the right hand side between Mount Hope and Mount Little Blowhard.

"Rene's lookout was named after Rene Bibby who was born Elizabeth Irene Bibby in 1895, the third daughter born to Thomas Michael Bibby and Elizabeth Mary McLean. Rene never married, was born in Harrietville and went to school there. Her nephew was William Thomas Bibby (Bill) married to Beverley Bibby. Bill is also related to the Howards and Dibbins as mentioned in other hut information pages on http://kha.org.au/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=677:pmg-hut&catid=69:victorian-huts&Itemid=211."

There are two possible access points to the cache however we have provided only one set of parking co-ordinates.  Please assess which is the best access for you.  Access closest to Hotham is quite a steep grade for a short while, caution will need to be taken whilst ascending but please take particular care with your descent.  We recommend a zigzag method where possible which will also save your toes.  Once at the top it is a nice ridgeline walk toward GZ that offers some magnificent views on a clear day.  You can almost see forever.

When you reach GZ you will be looking for a waterproof container hidden in the usual manner.  Please take care to replace the cache carefully to ensure its longevity.

This cache is located in an alpine environment and so recommended access is between the months of November and April.  However conditions can deteriorate rapidly at any time of year. Please ensure that you are appropriately prepared and be sure to take warm clothing and wet weather gear to cater for all conditions. Above all else, appreciate the views this area offers.  Happy caching!
