These shops are built on the site of John Allen Steam Plough company and the area is often still called the John Allen shopping centre. Part of the original wall is preserved on the Rymers Lane corner. Grove Cranes took over the works, together with a thriving sports and social club for workers.
For younger geo-kids desperate for a breather, there’s a small playground hidden behind; look for the corner with tall elm-trees, staying on the flat rather than using the zig-zag path. The small green space, formerly the sports field of Grove Cranes, was preserved for local residents and is now maintained by Oxford City Council. Unfortunately, the proliferation of nearby take-aways means CITO often needed!
Gate opening times 6.30am – 22.00pm. Plenty of parking, though often busy. More parking opposite in Templars Square shopping area. Well served by buses from Oxford via Cowley Road routes.
Nano, not used magnetically; despite appearances, the multiple metal work is not all magnetic! So please balance cache carefully as found. We may change container if this proves a problem. Tweezers may be needed, as will your own pen. Please roll tightly into lid (not container) to make re-assembly easier.
Our first cache so any feedback welcome.
Congrats to Nibbin for First to Find!</>
