Den fyrlängade Ballingstorpsgården är mest känd av byns tre gårdar, bland annat för att boningshuset är ett av få kvarvarande sydgötiska hus. Det innebär att huset består av en låg ryggåsstuga flankerad av högre loftbodar på ömse sidor. Ballingstorpsgården har dock bara den ena loftboden kvar.
Ballingstorpsgården var bebodd fram till slutet av 1950-talet och Per Olsgården (det gulputsade huset) en bit in på 1960-talet. Båda gårdarna är byggnadsminnesförklarade och vårdas bland annat för att bevara kunskap om byggnadsskick och -tekniker för framtiden. Gårdarna ägs av Skånes hembygdsförbund och på deras hemsida kan man läsa mycket mer. Det finns även broschyrer om gårdarna och kulturlandskapet.
Parkeringsplats finns, se koordinat. Passa gärna på att gå den 1 km långa natur- och kulturstigen. Eller gå ner till Gummastorpssjön och kika på fågellivet. Har du tur får du se fiskgjusen, som är Östra Göinges kommunfågel.
Vägen till cachen är lättpromenerad (vilket även gäller för natur- och kulturstigen). På sommarhalvåret går djur på bete, så glöm inte stänga grinden efter dig. Djuren är inte farliga men kan förstås vara nyfikna. Skulle du vilja se ruinen efter Ballingstorps tredje gård, så gå från parkeringen och när du passerat (och loggat) cachen fortsätt på samma väg rakt fram så är du strax där.
Cachen är självklart INTE gömd i en stenmur eller ett stenröse.
Observera att såväl rökning som grillning är absolut förbjudet i närheten av gårdarna.
Welcome to Ballingstorp, a small village in the woodlands. The village used to be consist of three farms, of which two are still present; the Ballingstorp farm and the Per Ols farm. The third one is a ruin. The four-winged Ballingstorp farm is the most well-known one, partly because the dwelling house is one of few remaining built in South Gothic style. That means that the house is low in the middle, with higher parts on each side. The Ballingstorp farm only has one of these higher sides left.
The Ballingstorp farm was inhabited until the late 1950’s and the Per Ols farm (the yellow house) until the 1960’s. All buildings are protected under Swedish law and preserved for its building technique and its cultural heritage values. The farms are owned by The Association for Local Heritage in Skåne, and you can read more on their website (only Swedish, though). There are also pamphlets about the buildings and the surrounding cultural landscape, but these are also only available in Swedish.
There is a small parking space available, see additional waypoints. Take the opportunity to walk the 1 kilometer long Nature- and Culture Path. Or go to the Gummastorp lake and observe the bird life. If you’re lucky you might get to see the osprey, which is the municipal bird for Östra Göinge.
The path to the cache is easily walked (which also goes for the Nature and Culture Path). During the summer cows graze in pastures in the surroundings, so don’t forget to close the gates behind you. The animals aren’t dangerous, but can be very curious.
If you want to see the ruins after the third farm in the village of Ballingstorp, continue on the pathway from the parking lot, past the cache (after logging) and you’ll be right there. The cache is of course NOT hidden in a stone wall or in a cairn.
Respect that smoking as well as barbecuing is absolutely forbidden close to the buildings.
