The Brownlow Medal was formally Charles Brownlow Trophy.

It is a individual award given to a player who has been judged to be the fairest and best player in the Australian Football League

This is decided by votes by the officiating umpires after each game.

The Medal has been awarded every year since 1924 with the exception of an intermission from 1942 to 1945 due to World War 2.

Players are ineligible to win the Medal if they have been suspended for on field offences.

The 1947 Bownlow Medal was won by Bert Deacon from the Carlton [blues] Football Team.

He had 20 votes.
