Ein Yael is a spring in the Refaim River, located near the Biblical Zoo. The spring crosses a 40-acre-area which is also an archeological site. The dig there revealed a luxurious Roman Villa from the 2nd - 3rd centuries CE, as well as an earlier agricultural farm dated from the 7th - 6th centuries BC. Some of the pottery found in that place had Hebrew letters on it. There are also remains from the early Arab period (7th - 8th centuries) and a building from the 19th century that belonged to a Greek family who lived there. The Roman remains are the most impressive and include mosaics, frescoes and geometrical designs.
Today the place operates as an active museum where one can experience workshops of traditional arts and crafts, such as weaving, creating mosaics, frescoes, basket making, ceramics, agriculture, constructing musical instruments, making jewellery from natural materials, grape pressing for preparing wine, and producing oil and perfumes. To name a few. There's also a small petting zoo.
People also hold events in Ein Yael, such as weddings, Bar/Bat Mizvas, etc.
עין יעל הוא מעיין בעמק רפאים ליד גן החיות התנכ"י. הוא נמצא למעשה באתר ארכיאולוגי בו התגלו ממצאים מתקופות שונות, ביניהם חרסים מתקופת בית ראשון (המאות ה-8 וה-7 לפנה"ס), וילה רומית מפוארת (המאות השנייה והשלישית לספירה), וכן שרידים מהתקופה הערבית הקדומה (המאות השביעית והשמינית לספירה) ובית מגורים יווני (המאה ה-19 לספירה). הממצאים המרשימים ביותר הם השרידים הרומיים, הכוללים פסיפסים שונים, פרסקו ועיצובים גיאומטריים.
כיום המקום משמש כמוזיאון פעיל בו מתקיימות סדנאות יצירה של אמנות ומלאכה, לרבות אריגה, הכנת פסיפסים ופרסקו, קליעת סלים, קרמיקה, חקלאות, הכנת כלי נגינה ותכשיטים מחומרים מהטבע, דריכת ענבים בגת, הפקת שמן ובשמים ועוד. יש במקום אף פינת חי.
במקום נערכים גם אירועים, כגון חתונות ובר/בת מצוות.
