The Soldier's Beach Trail is a newly constructed trail that is 1.7 miles long and offers views across Meadow Park Lake, the primary water source for the city of Crossville.
Soldier's Beach is where German and Italian POW's were brought to bathe in the lake during World War II. There was a nearby POW camp that was originally constructed for Japanese POW's but was actually used to house captured German and Italian officers.
The "Spice Bush" of the title refers to a small, unusual tree discovered when the trail was laid out. The gnarled appearance make it look much olde than it really is. There are a number of these trees nearby but most are quite small. The scientific name is Lindera benzoin. The pictures show the bush in summer and winter.
The camo'ed bison tube cache is located in the woods a short distance from the Spice Bush.
