Welcome to Freddy C's NEW SERIES OF CACHES-THE SEVEN DEADLY SINS! This series was going to be assembled for next summer but I changed those plans to make it available for the Winter Caching Game(GC5G899). The Seven Deadly Sins, also known as capital vices or cardinal sins, is a classification of vices(Part of Christian ethics) that has been used since early Christian times to educate and instruct Christians concerning fallen humanity's tendency to sin. The sins are often listed under the names of wrath, sloth, pride, lust, envy, greed and gluttony.
Derived from the Latin 'gluttire' meaning to gulp down or swallow, gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of anything to the point of waste. In Christianity, it is considered a sin if the excessive desire for food causes it to be withheld from the needy. Because of these scripts, gluttony can be interpreted as selfishness, essentially placing concern with one's own interests above those of others. Medieval church leaders(ie Thomas Aquinas) took a more expansive view of gluttony, arguing that it could also include an obsessive anticipation of meals, and the constant eating of delicacies and excessively costly foods. Aquinas went so far as to prepare a list of six ways to commit gluttony-eating too soon, eating too expansively, eating too much, eating too eagerly, eating too daintily and eating wildly. Hmmm.....I suspect that we have all committed this cardinal sin once or twice in our lives, perhaps after a long day of caching in the cold and the snow without a lot of nourishment along the way?
