Geocache Description:

The Doha 2006 Asian Games Eternal Flame the "Astrolabe" Cauldron has been re-assembled at the starting point of the sport city and is still sometimes lit.

The 15th Asian Games was held in Doha, Qatar from December 1st to December 15th, 2006. Doha was the first city in its region and only the second in West Asia to host the games. There were 46 disciplines from 39 events scheduled to be contested and was the first time that all 45 member nations of the Olympic Council of Asia took part in this event.

The opening ceremony presented the culture of the Arab World as well as other Asian cultures and their histories. Several musical artists performed. Five Qatari athletes carried the torch around the stadium. The Cauldron was lit by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Al-Thani and the flame lept 6 m into the air after being lit; conuming 300 kg of gas per hour. The Cauldron is set 50 m above floor level and takes the form af an antique Arabian sun with three concentric revolving rings of steel echoing the design of the astrolabe. It is the first kinetic Cauldron ever created.

Enjoy the view while walking towards the Cauldron on your quest to retrieve the cache (a bison tube).
