Here, Irish Catholics, built the first Catholic Church for a vast surrounding area stretching all the way to Riverside-Albert. Founded in the late 1840s as "Our Lady of Ransom Cemetery", the name was changed to "Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery" in 1919. It is cared for and used by St. Jude Roman Catholic Church, Salisbury, NB.
In the mid 1800s, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, wrote of graveyards -
