Lake Mountain is an all year round location. In winter months the area can be covered in 60 cm of snow, in other months it is worth a visit with fantastic walks and scenery. The area was severly burnt in the Black Saturday Fires and the resort has had a hard time getting back on its feet - but the bush is slowly recovering. The Alpine ash will take a long time to recover but - if at all, but the Snow gums are gradually getting a bit of height. Prior to the fires I used to ski and snow shoe around this area - there is a 5 km Snowy Hill loop track which very very few people ever seem to ski- never groomed. The tracks have overgrown a bit and up until recent they have been telling people to avoid the area. The cache is on a track between the Snowy Hill car park and the Lake Mountain Summit. The cache was originally placed in Winter after a 50 cm dump of snow but was relocated just recently.
This cache can be accessed by walking from snowy hill or for a longer walk, from Lake Mountain. This cache can also be accessed by riding the MTB trail beginning at Lake Mountain carpark but it is fairly difficult, and very rocky!
Note: you will get charged an entry fee in winter. If you are up for a walk look for my other 2 caches not too far away.
