The Christian community in the Islamic Middle Eastern state celebrated a pivotal moment on 21 September 2013 with the official opening of the Anglican Centre, in a complex known locally as Church City, in the country’s capital Doha. At the heart of the center is the Church of the Epiphany, which was consecrated one week later on 28 September 2013.
It is one of the the first churches built in the country since the Muslim conquests in the 7th century. The church was constructed on land donated by the Emir of Qatar, Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. Due to the laws in Islamic Qatar, the church displays no Christian symbols like crosses, bells, or a steeple on its exterior.
