I like to go out geocaching from time to time. But I always seem to be working or have other obligations when I really want to do it the most. When I do make it out sometimes I'm alone and other times I'm with family or friends. The extra eyes come in handy on the hard to finds and more times than I would like to admit the easy ones too. It is always nice to make it to an event to chat with others that like Caching and sometimes do a little cleaning to keep trash off our roads or out of our parks. To hear other cachers adventures is always a blast and to get to tell some of my own is fun. I have picked up ideas for new caches and containers while at these meet ups that I might not have come up with not being there.

It also has been just as much fun for me placing caches. Placing some of them so people can get a quick smiley, others to make people smile when they find the container and still others to make people curse me when they finally or can't make the find. Being the owner of a couple caches I have noticed things about other cachers. Some are just driven and have to be FTF or just make the find. They will come in with blinders on and will not stop for anything even if it means destroying the cache area or "replacing" a cache just for the smiley. Others are quick to PaF when they can't make the find. Most will make note of this in their log but not all do. Then there are the ones with all the pride in the world that won't log a DNF.  They tend to give themselves away in their logs "finally got it on my third try", but this is the only log they have on the cache. Then there are the  cachers that are caching just for fun, they like the adventure of the find, meeting others; cachers and non-cachers alike and just having an all-around good time. Their logs are usually humorous and sometimes involve pictures. The last type I will mention are the shy ones. Their logs are usually short and sweet and you will never see them at an event of any type.

I see a little of all of these types in myself. I have learned to control the urge to get all the FTF's, but still like to get a few when I can. I can make finds without leaving a trail making the hunt just as much fun for the next cacher. I grit my teeth when logging a DNF because I never like to walk away without the smiley. When I started caching I only logging my finds with a KCCO but have progressively tried to make my logs better, making the CO's and cachers smile when they read them.

So be whatever cacher you are going to be and try to have some understanding with other cachers whatever type they are. Get together and have some fun. Remember to make a good log and read some of the older logs, sometimes they will give a hint for the cache you are hunting.
