Geocache Description:

Beadle Grove

The tail end of Black Gully runs through this pleasant block. Dogs must be kept on a leash. Parking advised on Lynches Rd unless you have a good long jump (for the creek!)

Feel free to scan my social munzee inside the lid, find out all about it at munzee.com

Named after Professer Noel Beadle (1914-1998) who was an Australian botanist who trained at the University of Sydney and joined the New South Wales Soil Conservation Service in 1939. Seven years later he returned to the his former university as a lecturer, and from 1954 Beadle was Professor of Botany at the University of New England, Armidale, where he remained for the rest of his career. Among his major works were the Handbook of the Vascular Plants of the Sydney District and Blue Mountains (as a co-author, 1963) and its revision, Flora of the Sydney Region (three editions, 1972-1991). Beadle was awarded the Clarke Medal of the Royal Society of New South Wales in 1982 and the Medal of the Ecological Society of Australia in 1985. His plant collections are at the University of New England herbarium and the park named Beadle Grove was created from a block of land donated by him to Armidale City Council.
