La Certosa di Valmanera prese il nome dall'Ordine dei Certosini che alla fine del 1300, subentrarono ai Vallombrosani. Il complesso religioso, proprietario di notevoli possedimenti sparsi sul territorio, comprendeva 60 giornate di terreno coltivate in parte ad orto ed in parte a vigna, una peschiera, la Chiesa intitolata ai Santi Filippo e Giacomo, la foresteria, i rustici, le celle dei monaci, ciascuna col suo piccolo orto, ed una ricca biblioteca con preziose pergamene, rilegate in volumi, che andarono distrutti ad esclusione di quattro che, ritrovati da Quintino Sella, furono donati alla città di Asti. Dall'Incisa, nel suo Giornale di Asti, anno 1806, apprendiamo che nei fabbricati oltre ai domestici di casa e di campagna vi erano dieci religiosi, otto professi conversi ed il noviziato. Coll'avvento della rivoluzione francese, il 20 marzo 1801 il monastero fu soppresso, i soldati francesi saccheggiarono tutto quanto era asportabile, nel 1816 fu demolita la chiesa, il complesso anno dopo anno fu abbattuto, i terreni frazionati e rimase solo un corpo di fabbrica con loggiato ora sede dell'Arazzeria Scassa. Anche i muri di cinta furono totalmente demoliti e fu conservato solo questo portone rustico sul lato nord, caratterizzato, sul fronte esterno, dai dipinti di quattro figure di santi: gli apostoli Filippo e Giacomo, San Giovanni Gualberto che istituì l'ordine dei Vallombrosani e San Brunone fondatore dei Certosini. Sull'architrave è dipinto uno stemma sormontato da una corona con sotto la scritta: "Certosa dei Santi Filippo e Giacomo presso Asti". Nell'aprile 2011, il Comune di Asti con finanziamento statale, interviene con opere di restauro conservativo e riqualificazione ambientale per salvaguardare questa preziosa testimonianza del passato.
The Certosa of Valmanera takes its name from the Order of the Certosini that, at the end of the 14th century, took over on the Vallombrosans. The religious complex, owner of many dependencies in the area, included 228km² of terrain partially cultivated as a vegetable garden and partially as a vineyard, a fishpont, a Church entitled to the Saint Philip and James, a guesthouse, the houses, the monastic cells, each one with its own vegetable garden, and a rich library with rare scrolls, binded into volumes which were all destroyed except four of them that, discovered by Quintino Sella, were donated to the city of Asti. From the Incisa, on its "Giornale di Asti", year 1806, we learn that in the building, besides the house and country servants, there were ten priests, eight laybrothers and the novices. With the advent of the french revolution, on the 20th March 1801 the monastery was closed down, the french soldiers looted everything that was transportable, in the 1816 the church was destroyed, the complex was destroyed year after year, the terrains divided and only the factory body with the open gallery, now the venue of the Scassa tapestry factory. Even the surrounding walls were completely tear down and only this rustic gate on the north side was preserved, which features, on it's external side, the paintings of four Saints: the apostles Philip and James, Saint John Gualbert who founded the Vallombrosan Order and Saint Bruno of Cologne founder of the Carthusians. An emblem overcome by a crown with the writing "Certosa of the Saints Philip and James in Asti" is painted on the architrave. In April 2011, the Comune di Asti, with a state funding, made several works of restoration and environmental rehabilitation to safeguard this precious historical evidence.

ATTENZIONE: Nell'abitazione subito dietro il portone è presente un cane piuttosto irrequieto che probabilmente non smetterà di abbaiare, non avvicinatevi troppo alla recinzione (il cache non è lì dentro) sennò potrebbe mordervi!
La geocache è un piccolo contenitore (circa 3cm) con relativamente poco spazio all'interno, credo troppo piccolo per eventuali TB/Coin.

BE CAREFUL: In the house just behind the gate there is a restless dog that probably won't stop barking at you all the time, stay away from the fence (the cache is not hidden there!) or it could bite you!
A small container (about 3cm) with small to no space on the inside, not enought (I think) for a TB/Coin.
