Park at the gate and take the long hike out to the now defunct, Thompson's Beach. This was a thriving, 200 'home' community up until 1990, when the County of Cumberland decided they didnt want to do upkeep on the road.
All of the homes were taken from the resident's through the use of eminent domain. They were all razed and the rubble now makes up the tide resistant trail that extends now all the way to the barrier island.
Birding galore out here. you will see egrets, maybe eagles. This is the true South Jersey.
