Knagur Green: Due to no response from the CO after the request to maintain or replace the cache, I am archiving it to, stop it showing on the listings and/or to create place for the geocaching community.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported.

Geocache Description:

This cache is to comemorate all the great events and people happening in this beautiful park that has a rich history.

It is best to visit the park between 07:00 and 17:00

PLEASE use stealth mode, especially on game days


Just a couple of facts about St George's Park:

  • It hosts the second oldest cricket club in South Africa
  • The first Cricket Test was played at St George's Park Cricket Ground
  • The first women's international cricket test was played here
  • The last test before South Africa's expulsion from world cricket happened at this ground
  • The first cricket test series win against Australia
  • The first rebel cricket test
  • With the resumption of "normal" cricket, South Africa's first cricket test victory happened here
  • St George's Cricket ground is the sixth oldest cricket ground in the world
  • South Africa's first rugby test was played at St Georges
  • The Port Elizabeth Bowls Club is the first bowling club in South Africa
  • South Africa's first inter-club bowling tournament was hosted here (Port Elizabeth vs Kimberley)
  • St George's is home to world-class cricket players such as Peter & Graeme Pollock (Graeme Pollock was voted cricketer of the century)
  • The St George's stadium started out on an open tract of veld alongside a cemetery on a hill outside the harbour town of Port Elizabeth
  • Today St George's Cricket Ground is a 18 500-seater world-class stadium, set in the beautiful grounds of St George's Park, slap bang in the middle of the city

On the day that I placed this cache, there were even a wheelchair tennis tournament happening on the tennis courts.
