Ce son familier est celui de la Mésange à tête noire, très présente hiver comme été à la réserve nationale de faune du Cap-Tourmente (RNFCT). Au fil des jours durant la saison froide, on peut y apercevoir près de 35 espèces d’oiseaux, dont plus de 25 qui s’alimentent régulièrement aux mangeoires.
La majorité des oiseaux observés en hiver sont des espèces résidentes qui habitent sur le territoire de la RNFCT à l’année. On y retrouve, par exemple, le Pic chevelu, le Geai bleu, la Sitelle à poitrine rousse, la Tourterelle triste et le Grimpereau brun. On dénombre aussi plusieurs migrateurs – ces habitants du Nord qui descendent dans le… Sud, c'est-à-dire ici-même. Parmi eux, on observe le Plectrophane des neiges, le Bruant hudsonien et le Sizerin flammé.
Soyez aux aguets! Durant votre promenade, vous pourriez aussi apercevoir des oiseaux de proie tels que la Chouette rayée, le Grand-duc d’Amérique, l’Autour des Palombes et la Chouette lapone.

This familiar call is made by the black-capped chickadee, a bird seen frequently in both winter and summer in the Cap Tourmente National Wildlife Area (CTNWA). Over the winter, visitors to the CTNWA can spot close to 35 bird species, more than 25 of which regularly drop by the bird feeders.
Most of the birds seen in winter are resident species that live in the CTNWA year-round, such as the hairy woodpecker, blue jay, red-breasted nuthatch, mourning dove and brown creeper. Visitors may also see many migratory birds, which live further north and migrate “south” to the CTNWA, including the snow bunting, American tree sparrow and common redpoll.
While walking on the trails, keep an eye out for birds of prey, such as the barred owl, great horned owl, northern goshawk and great grey owl.
