While visiting my parents at Lake Buchanan, I introduced them to geocaching. My dad suggested that we create one ourselves. After some thought and exploration, we decided on Rocky Point, because it has always been a favorite place to fish in the late afternoon and then watch the sunset over the lake. The cache is hidden in a perfect place to watch the sunset.
Access to the cache is by boat only. Cachers should be aware of the many submerged rocks around the point and approach slowly and with caution. Once parked, you will need to do some light rock scrambling to the cache. (The distance will vary with the lake level.) You'll want sturdy shoes, as the area has not only rocks, but prickly pear. When looking for the cache, you should remember that snakes also enjoy warm, sunny rocks and cool crevices under rocks. You can reach the cache with your hand, but may feel more comfortable with a stick or paddle.
The cache has been moved slightly since its original placement, because a bush now obstructs the previous opening.
The cache itself is from my dad's "collection" in his shop and is appropriate to the location of the cache and the method of arrival. The cache is log only, due to its size and shape.
Enjoy finding this cache. I suggest taking some time to enjoy the area. You can fish, swim and just enjoy the view. Please note, though, that the public land extends only to the subdivision sign.
