The Hebrew University of Jerusalem was founded in 1918, and opened in 1925.
It registered 8 Nobel prize winners and 7000 patents.
One of the visions of the Zionist movement was the establishment of Jewish University in the land of Israel. The cornerstone was laid on 1918. Seven years later, on 1925, the campus on mount Scopus was opened. Among the founders were Albert Einstien, Martin Buber, Chaim Bialik, Chaim Weizmann, and Sigmund Freud. In 1948 a Haddassah medical convoy was massacre. The death toll included 79 doctors and nurses. After this event, the university was closed and a new one at Givat-Ram was opened. The Mount Scopus campus re-opened in 1981.
