Purpose: To enjoy a quick peaceful cemetery visit, and compare modern headstones with pioneer headstones.

A quick 2 stages and a final multi.

The cache conforms to guidelines.

SIZE: Small - 100ml or larger, but less than 1L. Holds a small logbook and small items.
The cache container is a 100ml round authentic Lock & Lock(TM). Room for small swag and trackables.

TERRAIN: 1.5 - Most likely a flat, less than a .5 mile (.8 km) hike, but may not be wheelchair accessible.

DIFFICULTY: 1.5 - Easy to find or solve within about 10-15 minutes.

-----------------

WINTER: The cemetery is not winter friendly. When the snow flies, the snow plows will block the entrances with snow. There is no winter maintenance in this cemetery.

The new and the old.

First stage takes you to the new part of the cemetery to a modern style headstone. On the top you will see an embedded brass coin. On the coin is a symbol.

If that symbol is

  • a dove go to: 43 31.689 -80 10.845
  • a cross go to: 43 31.694 -80 10.838

  • a treble clef music symbol go to: 43 31.709 -80 10.861

At stage 2 you will visit an old late 1800s early 1900s headstone. This headstone includes many of the common gravestone symbols of its time.

  • The wreath represents: victory in death.
  • The wheat sheaf represents: harvest, usually found on older peoples' gravestones.
  • The clasped hands represent: farewell to earthly existence.
  • The urn represents: the soul.

Above Alice's name is an epitaph. Count the words.

To get the final coordinates:

Add the number of words in the epitaph to these North coordinates: N43 31.684

Add the number of words in the epitaph to these West coordinates: W80 10.850

The cache is a dark authentic lock 'n' lock container, with the usual assortment of swag. Not a lot of room, but will fit a dog tag TB and a couple of geocoins.

Before you leave, please cover up the cache with bark so it's not easily seen by non-geocachers. Thanks. :)
