Le projet de Bibliothèque Multimédia à Vocation Régionale (BMVR) a été validé en septembre 2011.
En 2010, Caen la mer a retenu le cabinet OMA, de l’architecte néerlandais Rem Koolhaas.
D’une superficie de 12 000 m², sur 4 niveaux, le futur équipement sera situé face au bassin Saint-Pierre à Caen. Ouvert à l’Ouest à l’est, très lumineux grâce à sa faille horizontale totalement transparente et libre de toute structure, il est pensé comme un forum urbain. En forme de croix de Saint-André, il regroupera 4 pôles : les arts à l’Est, les sciences humaines au Sud, la littérature à l’Ouest et les sciences et techniques au Nord. Il offrira également de nouveaux services, notamment un auditorium, des espaces d’espaces d’exposition, un café-restaurant…
Le chantier est prévu sur 31 mois. Il représente un coût de construction de près de 33 millions d’euros HT. L’ouverture de la BMVR est prévue pour l'automne 2016.
J'ai hésité avant de placer cette cache, du fait que les travaux sont en cours.

The construction work is planned over 31 months. It represents a cost of construction of about 33 million euros HT. The opening of the BMVR is planned for autumn, 2016.
I hesitated before placing this geocache, because the works are in progress.
