Geocache Description:

We love horseradish and when our neighbour told us where we could find some growing wild, we were thrilled. If you love horseradish and you're willing to endure a literally breath-taking experience grinding it yourself, bring a sharp spade and a pail to this cache site. We assume this horse radish started out in the garden of this long abandoned farm yard many years ago and migrated to the roadside. Lucky for us.

So never having harvested or processed horse radish before, we watched a lot of youtube videos and read a lot of websites before starting out. Digging the tough roots was just step one. It was good to know that breaking them off and leaving some behind is a good thing because that is how they regrow. Hosing, scrubbing, cutting, peeling, cubing. All went well. Then came the grinding. All the warnings about masks, eye protection, ventilation - really? How bad could it be. How about almost 9-1-1 worthy? We have NEVER laughed so hard at each other in 32 years of marriage. Well it was worth every tear and kleenex and cold compress. We had a year's supply of the best horse radish we have ever tasted.

To claim your smilie, please share your best hazmat cooking story.
