This memorial honors the thousands of men and women who moved to a city that was not found on maps to help end World War II. The memorial’s oval walkway features 10 bronze plaques that tell the story of Oak Ridge and its role in the war. The Secret City Commemorative Walk also displays a series of eight bronze markers that chronicle what life was like for people who lived in Oak Ridge while it was closed to the public.
Here you will find lots of interesting history in straightforward, concise language. Take the time to read it. Our favorite item is from the plaque about Y-12 where it says local women workers outperformed male Ph D Physicists in controlling the complex separation equipment. Ultimately, thousands of women were hired to help operate the plant.
Log only, BYOP. Please replace as found, including the camouflage, to keep it hidden yet easily accessible from the walkway.
PLEASE be considerate of those who will come after you and don't leave a spoiler image with your log. It's plenty easy without that.
Special thanks to Billy Pickett of the City of Oak Ridge, TN Recreation & Parks Department for granting permission to place this Geocache. For more information about the parks and greenways in Oak Ridge please click on this link.
