Geocache Description:

A Cache In - Trash Out event to help tackle some of the fly-tipping and a general litter pick.

Sunday 1st February 2015, 1:00pm to 3:00pm

This path, once part of the Macmerry branch line for North British Railways, has become a well used cycle path and is also popular with Muggles, Duggles and horse riders alike.

Please note the waypoint coordinates for parking, there is no suitable parking immediately at or around the event coordinates. Please do not try to access from the Smeaton Farm road (single track) unless you are walking! The nearest parking is at Carberry Court in Whitecraig where the event coordinates can be reached by walking to Dean Court (at the top of Carberry Court) where there is access to the path via a tarmac slope. Whitecraig is serviced by LRT No.40, there is a request stop on Salters Road at the end of the farm road.

The path and the bowling club are both accessible by wheelchair.

The plan will be to meet at the event coordinates and remove as much fly-tipped rubbish as possible. This is mostly old tyres and furniture. There may be a limited amount of gloves, so if you have a sturdy pair of gardening gloves please bring them with you. Litter-pickers will also be available. Kids are more than welcome, but please remember there is risk in litter-picking so they will need to be supervised.

Afterwards you will be graciously rewarded at the Deantown Bowling Club (portacabins (see waypoint)) with hot beverages and sweet treats for your efforts!

New cachers will be more than welcome to come and find out more about Geocaching and there may be a couple of new caches for those who have already found the ones in the area.

This event is kindly supported by the East Lothian Council Countryside Rangers Service and the Volunteer Path Wardens. We may also be joined by volunteers from Sustrans.
