The Pearson Street United Congregational Church was designed by James Bisset.

It was opened in September 1881 after the congregation moved from "New Church" in Main Street.

The MacIntosh Hall was designed by OW Smith and built in 1890.

The church porch is a monument to the memory of Lieut-Col John Fordyce of 74th Regiment who was killed in the Battle of Waterkloof in 1851 during the Frontier War.
