Geocache Description:

The Bachelor-Stony Brook Resource Area in South Hadley is home to many trails, varied terrains, and a bunch of geocaches! Please reference GC5JW7B for a list of waypoints for the trails south of the Bachelor Brook and GC5K4Y7 for the trail north of the brook.

Parking is available on Route 47 (Hadley Street) at the Parking Pulloff waypoint or the Town Farm Parking waypoint. Recommended parking for the caches south of the Bachelor Brook is at the Town Farm Parking.

Click here for a trail map.

Park at the Town Farm and choose your trail to reach the western edge of the cornfield where the Connecticut River Trailhead (East) waypoint. Once you reach the (West) trailhead waypoint, follow the edge of the woods until you reach the Power Line Reference waypoint. You must pass adjacent to the power line in a straight line in order to find the final stretch of the trail. The (To Vista) trailhead waypoint will be easily visible beyond this point. At GZ is a camouflaged lock-and-lock which should be accessible during winter, just use a little force to free the GZ-hiders of a small icy hold. I encourage anyone who has come out this far to continue to the end of the trail for a beautiful view of the Connecticut River.

Seeing as the word confluence references the joinin of two rivers, you will find at the CT River and Bachelor Brook Vista waypoint the meeing of this river and brook. There is a wide clearing at the end of this dead-end trail where many beautiful views are possible. Depending on the season and CT River's water levels, it is possible to walk out onto a small, stony "beach" to get a breathtaking glance at the river. (I took the final reference waypoint coordinates from this beach... how badly my iPhone warped them is to be discovered!) Definitely continue to the very end after finding this geocache, it's not too far and it is worth it!

Good Luck! Happy Caching!
