Note: this area has several notes posted regarding misuse of the area. I legitimately do not know the context of this, and don't think it's geocaching-related, but it may be best to wait before egging on an FTF hunt here for a while.

Geocache Description:

The Bagg-Pierce Wildlife Sanctuary is a unique conservation area in South Hadley, MA with nice trails! Find two geocaches and a view of the Connecticut River!

A Parking waypoint has been provided. Access is from the end of Edgewater Lane.

Click here for a trail map.

Drive to Edgewater Lane in South Hadley, MA off of River Lodge Road. This is the only way to get here, there are private roads as well as incorrect maps that portray some roads wrongly. At the end of Edgewater Lane the road will curve around to the right; follow the road and park in front of the tough-to-miss conservation area sign. There is a No Trespassing sign on the road but I have been told repeatedly by the conservation commission administrator to not worry about it. Its presence has been a debate for several months and you are not actually trespassing to reach the trailhead. Just keep to the right and park at the trailhead.

Once you reach the Parking waypoint, you will find that you are very close to the cache. It has been placed close to the trailhead intentionally; you are searching for a somewhat unique container and you will need to BYOP! This one isn't winter-friendly. You are going to need tweezers. Then, if you like, you can continue to the other geocache off of the yellow-blazed trail or hike the red-blazed trail for a rewarding view of the Connecticut River! Waypoints for the red trail's beginning and end have been provided as there are no geocaches on that trail. (It becomes very thorny and there aren't any really good hiding spots!)

This geocache was a gift from fellow cache Punka13! Once you find the container you will piece together the logic behind this name. I have understood this primarily to be a bird sanctuary and when I visited I was amazed at how many birds I saw. It's a great place to go birding!

Good Luck! Happy Caching!
