Geocache Description:

A great little tramp (approx 3 hrs) through regenerating native forest, with some big old totara and matai, near Geraldine. Initially the walk leads along the Kakahu Stream then crosses an area with big old European trees where a sanatorium was planned in the 1930s. From there you enter the bush through a gate to gently climb to the site of the cache where there are wide views of the surrounding area. The cache is a 200ml container which contains a log and pencil.

At the beginning of the track is an old lime kiln with a sign explainng the history of the area. The bush is partly on DOC land and partly owned by the South Canterbury Conservation Trust. The road there leads past several other caches. Part of the approach is over gravel roads so take care. Parking is off road near the beginning of the track on Hall Road, Kakahu.
