Marko Ramius: Since there does not appear to have been any response to the logs posted to this cache page, I can only assume that the cache owner is either MIA or is not willing or able to perform normal maintenance on this listing. Accordingly, I am archiving the listing to remove it from search pages and to allow for new caches in this area. If you would like to correct the issues for this cache, you can either create a new cache page or send me an e-mail with the GCxxxx code for this cache listing and I will un-archive it and review it again.

Thank you for your understanding and for your contributions to Geocaching.

Geocache Description:

Cache is not within cemetery grounds and not in plain sight. There is street parking on Veteran Ave., between the UCLA Grad Housing and the Vet Cemetery (make sure you're not here during street sweeping hours of Thursday and Friday). Due to High muggle traffic, this cache is best accessed:

1. At night

2. With friends as cover while you retrieve

3. If a vehicle is parked in just the right spot.

Prepare to get your hands a little dirty.

I'll occasionally fill the cache with some SWAG. Congrats TropicalJoe for FTF! :)

This cache is placed outside the gates of The Los Angeles National Veterans' Cemetery. On Veterans' Day you're sure to see flags flying, and probably a few people sitting in lawn chairs near some of the graves, honoring the day with their Veteran. Also at this Cemetery you will find:
  • War Veterans from the Mexican-American War, Civil War, Spanish American War, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War, Iraq War, and the conflict in Afghanistan.
  • 14 Medal of Honor recipients.
  • A chapel dedicated to comedian Bob Hope for his life-long service to Veterans.
  • Over 100 Buffalo Soldiers that served in the Civil War (members of the 9th, 10th, 24th, and 25th Cavalry).
  • From www.cem.va.gov: "Two unusual canine burials distinguish Los Angeles National Cemetery, although this practice is prohibited today. Old Bonus, an adopted pet of residents in the soldiers' home, and Blackout, a war dog wounded in the Pacific during World War II, are both buried here."

You can enter the cemetery through the gates located on Sepulveda Blvd. Hours are from 8AM to 5PM--closed on Federal Holidays except Memorial Day and Veterans' Day.
