Geocache Description:

Dotty Dalmation geocache is found along the 'Fairies walk' that connects the Strontian Community Woodland and the Ariundle Oakwoods.  Fairies as Strontian means the  'knoll of the fairies' in Gaelic and the small wood (knoll)  of Caledonian pines you pass (to your left)  on the way to this geocache is locally known as the Fairies Knoll.  Strontian is actually a collection of smaller communities of Ariundle, Anaheilt, Upper and Lower Scotswn, Ardnastang and Longrigg.  The glen below you has a rich history associated with lead mining especially in the 18th century.  The hills to the head of the glen are riddled with lead mines and the element Strontium was found in them there hill. It is not mined here anymore. Infact nothing is mined here anymore. One of the main uses of Strontium is to give fireworks a red flare.

This is a family and dog friendly geocache.  Although the track is fairly good there is a short steep section at the start that may not make this suitable for wheelchairs.  Parking is to be found next to the Tourist Information Centre in the village, or at Ariundle Oakwoods if you feeling very energetic to climb a steep hill!

Thank you to the forestry Commission (Lochaber) for allowing us to place this cache.

We have decided  to name our geocaches after dogs as the Hairy Spangle (spaniel) is an important if completely useless member of our team.

Well done Gerryu2 for FTF. x
