The Two Ronnies’ Annie Finkhouse sketch, later changed to "The Hardware Shop", is most commonly known as "Four Candles". For anyone who hasn't seen or can't remember it then your favourite search engine or video viewing website will provide easy access to watch it.
It is generally regarded to be one of the most iconic sketches by the Two Ronnies and was first aired in 1976. Nearly 40 years on, it is constantly in the top 10 of the many comedy clip countdown shows and media surveys.
As well as being extremely funny, the sketch also demonstrates the idiosyncrasies of language and how confusing English can be, especially when words are not pronounced clearly & correctly or spoken with particularly strong accents.
Ronnie Barker's handwritten script for Four Candles sold at auction in 2007 for around £50,000.
At Barker's memorial service in Westminster Abbey, the cross was accompanied up the aisle by four candles instead of the usual two.
