Make yourself as small as possible, almost invisible, keep very quiet while you search and if you are very lucky, you will be rewarded. You may see something move in the shadows. At first you may think it was a wild animal, a mouse perhaps? Keep very still (for the Little People usually know when any mortal is about); you may be lucky enough to see Sambucus or another one of his kind.
Sambucus, like the rest of his Cheshire brothers is very shy and has been hiding away from the mortal beings of this world for hundreds of years. The coming of the First Annual Gnome Games to Gnorley has encouraged him to reveal himself to the mortal beings known as geocachers. Sambucus has seen that his brothers have been well received and not at all scared by his encounters with the mortal beings and so he has felt it time that he himself should appear.
Sambucus and the other gnomes of Gnorley are smaller than most of their Cheshire brethren. Sambucus sits where he is most at home, under his own tree in this quiet little corner of Cheshire.
Let me know if you meet Sambucus, but keep his whereabouts secret, sign your name on the parchment he carries and hopefully during the future you may be introduced to others of his kind.

If anyone asks what you are looking for, tell him or her you are searching for Sambucus or Elder, a shrub or small tree that is sometimes known as the "tree of music".
