Geocache Description:

The cache is a gentle walk through the forest.  On the hike a person can observe examples of forest management.  You will start in an area that was thinned approx. 15 years ago and you won't see any bark beetle activity.  In the cache area are unthinned stands that have been hit by beetles and have been "cut and chunked" as a management tool to keep the bugs from spreading.  This work was done by the residents of a near subdivision and firewise community to keep the bugs out and reduce potential fire danger.  In the near distance you will see recent thinning, winter of 2013 and spring of 2014 that was done to reduce stand density and keep the bugs from infesting the forest.  You will end up at an old mining exploration site that contains many types of interesting rocks and a few old mining relics.  Paying attention to both will help you find the cache. Good parking next to the trash cans at junction of Carroll Creek and Fox Ridge roads.
