Geocache Description:

Kissing Gates: Póg Deireanach means Last Kiss

A small gate, used instead of a stile, usually found at the boundary of a field or walkway. The gate swings in a U-shaped enclosure thereby touching (kissing) each of two gateposts. These gates, whilst allowing people to pass, have the advantage of not needing to unlatch the gate to go through and then have to close it afterwards.

The kissing gates have the rather interesting feature of only allowing one person to pass through at a time. So, when a couple are out walking in the countryside, one partner invites the other to pass through the gate first, but then they have, in effect, to close the gate on their partner in order to pass through themselves. It thereby affords a good opportunity to turn round and demand a kiss, or two, over the gate before letting their partner pass through.

NOTE: You have to go down to the river bank to find this cache and others on the Rambles.

NOTE: The cache is a small 3” x 2" long camo'ed container

Ensure you have good footwear as the trail can be mucky and slippery in spots. Do NOT attempt caching when the river is in flood.  Keep your eyes on your children along the riverbank and if there are animals in the nearby fields then keep your dog on a lead.  Do not litter, and PLEASE take your rubbish home with you.
